Didion Orf Recycling is a leading provider of recycling and scrap metal management services. We specialize in the collection, processing, and selling of a wide range of metals and electronics, contributing to a sustainable future. We’re seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join our team as a Customer Service Representative/Buyer in Training. 

 

Job Description:
As an Customer Service Representative/Buyer in Training, you will embark on an exciting career path with opportunities for growth and hands-on experience. During training, you will learn how to assess, purchase, and manage scrap metal inventory while providing excellent customer service. You will work closely with experienced professionals who will mentor you and provide guidance as you develop into a skilled metals buyer. A sales mindset will be key to success in this position along with a strong work ethic and desire to learn/grow knowledge in the metals industry.  The majority of work will be performed outside or in a warehouse environment. This role will serve as a leader in the customer drop-off department.

 

Qualifications:

  • This is a hands-on, physically demanding role. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in business, logistics, or a related field is a plus.
  • Prior experience in sales and negotiations is preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Unloading metals and electronics from customer vehicles
  • Assist with purchasing scrap metal from customers.
  • Learn how to evaluate the quality and value of various metals through hands on work in our General Public drop off area.
  • Help maintain accurate records of purchases, pricing, and inventory.
  • Provide excellent customer service and lead team in customer satisfaction initiatives. 
  • Communicate  with customers to educate on what we accept and what items we may recycle for the customer.
  • Prior knowledge and/or strong interest in learning about scrap metal and the recycling industry is required.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Basic math skills and computer proficiency.
  • A positive attitude and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Starting pay $22-25 per hour plus opportunities for incentives.
